At an extraordinary meeting on 20 February, the Novi Sanzhary village council approved an address to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Health Minister Zoryana Skaletska not to accommodate the Ukrainians and foreigners evacuated from China in the village.
They said that they were "categorically AGAINST placing the evacuated Ukrainian citizens and foreigners from the city of Wuhan in the unfit medical centre Novi Sanzhary of the National Guard of Ukraine, which is located in a residential neighbourhood of the village, which has no conditions for a quarantine stay because it has no isolation wards, boxes or proper ventilation system to guarantee isolation".
They said that the medical centre's sewage system is part of the general system, the waste from which gets dumped in open fields in the nearby village of Zachepylivka.
The council agreed that Ukraine needed a facility for people infected with coronavirus, but not in their "picturesque village of Novi Sanzhary".
This morning a plane brought 45 Ukrainians and 27 foreigners evacuated from China's Wuhan, the hotbed of the COVID-2019 coronavirus, to Ukraine. They are healthy but will spend two weeks in isolation in the medical centre of the National Guard in Novi Sanzhary.
