The White House has commented on the "sanctions" imposed by the Russian Federation against American politicians, reports Interfax-Ukraine. "It may surprise you, but none of us are planning tourist trips to Russia, none of us have bank accounts there that need access," said White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki, in response to a reporter's question.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the imposition of personal sanctions against US President Joe Biden, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and a number of other high-ranking officials and military officials of the US administration.
"A series of unprecedented sanctions (due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and continued escalation of Russian military aggression - ed.), which prohibit, inter alia, entry into the United States for senior Russian officials, have been imposed by the USA. In response, from 15 March, Russia has reciprocally included in its stop list President J. Biden, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Secretary of Defense (Lloyd's) Austin and Joint Chiefs of Staff (Mark) Millie, as well as a number of department heads and prominent American figures," reported a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The Russian sanctions list also includes Assistant to the President for National Security Jacob Sullivan, CIA Director William Burns, White House spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki, Deputy Assistant to the President for National Security Dalip Singh, Director of the International Development Agency Samantha Power, son of US President Hunter Biden, former US Secretary of State and former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, First Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Adevael Adeemo and President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Retail Export-Import Bank Joe Lewis.
On 12 March the US Treasury Department published a list of people who became subject to new US sanctions, including 10 top VTB Bank officials, oligarch Viktor Vekselberg, 12 Russian State Duma deputies and the family of Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Earlier, the United States banned the supply of luxury goods to Russia, as well as imports of alcohol, diamonds and seafood from Russia.
On the same day, the President of the United States signed a decree banning the import of dollar bills into Russia. The United States is also considering a full embargo on trade with Russia.
