A conscript died from a gunshot wound in an Air Force military unit in Mykolayiv Region on 1 April, the press service of the Air Force command has said on Facebook.
A local news website, Novosti Nikolayeva, quoted a source in the military prosecutor's office as saying that the incident took place in the 19th special-purpose detached regiment of radio reconnaissance of the Air Force (military unit A3767) stationed in the village of Halitsynove near Mykolayiv.
According to the source, servicemen were given weapons for duty service. Soon after receiving the weapons, they heard a shot. One of the soldiers shot himself in the head with an AK-74.
The victim was a 21-year-old resident of Halitsynove. A note was found in the pocket of his uniform jacket.
An investigation is under way. A commission consisting of representatives of the National Police, the Military Prosecutor's Office, the Military Service of Law Enforcement and officers of the Air Force Command are working at the scene.
